The Cleeve Bookshop Poetry Writing Club
The Cleeve Bookshop Poetry Club meets every two weeks on a Wednesday, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. No preparation or previous experience are necessary, just bring something to write with, something to write on, and see where your writing will take you! It costs £3.00 to attend each meeting, which contributes towards buying up-to-date publications and producing handouts to help us with our writing.
Each meeting includes reading, discussion and writing, as well as sharing helpful feedback on each other's work. We look at poetry anthologies, focusing on specific poets’ themes, subjects and styles. We also talk about the creative process, and experiment with form. The aim is to develop our own unique ‘voice’ and style … and to encourage each other while we get inspired!
This is a group for poets at any level of experience. Beginners are very welcome, as are people who have been writing for a while. We aim to be supportive, relaxed … and good fun. Poetry Club is organized and run by Sharon Larkin, a published poet who is passionate about bringing people together to experiment, share, develop their ideas … and write some good poems!
Sharon has an MA in creative writing. Two of her books of poetry have been published and she’s currently working on a new collection. Her poems can also be found in numerous anthologies, magazines and e-zines. Check out her website for more information www.sharonlarkinjones.com
Sharon is The Poetry Society’s Stanza Representative for Gloucestershire, hence Bishops Cleeve Poetry Club has recently become one of the UK’s Stanza Groups https://poetrysociety.org.uk/stanzas/gloucestershire/bishops-cleeve/ alongside Cheltenham Poetry Society, with whom Sharon has been closely associated for twenty years.
